The Big Ship

2022

A climate anxiety themed mini-golf hole.

Golf offers apt illustration of many deep-rooted problems of the era of late-capitalism-and-climate-change. This work was designed as a response to the land use practices, Elite privilege, and astonishing resource intensity required to construct, maintain, and operate regular-sized golf courses, and to foreground some of the true costs associated with the pastime and its culture. Despite the threats posed by the Climate Crisis, those with means will be able to safeguard certain privileges. As ever in the history of global capitalism, the burdens extracted of the poor continue to grow as Elite privilege becomes more visibly absurd.

The Big Ship was designed and built for the Good Old Lawn Fun group show curated by Ryland Fortie for Lowlands Project Space.

Plywood, Astroturf, Sand, Water, Life-Jacket, Putter.
